Building Green in Houston
Energy-efficient construction, hurricane-resilient detailing, and responsible jobsite practices on every LNB project.
Smarter buildings cost less to live in.
Houston's climate is unforgiving, long, humid summers, hurricane season, and electricity bills that climb every year. Building green isn't an aesthetic choice for us; it's how we deliver homes and commercial spaces that hold up to the Gulf Coast and stay affordable to operate decade after decade.
Every LNB project starts with envelope thinking: insulation, air sealing, glazing, and roof reflectivity working together. From there we layer in the systems and finishes that move a building from "code minimum" to genuinely efficient, without inflating the budget or running up against permitting friction. Green building is the default at LNB, not an upcharge.
Eight green-building practices on every job
-
Energy-Star certified appliance integration
Heat pumps, water heaters, dishwashers, and HVAC selected for the rebate-eligible efficiency tier.
-
Spray foam and rigid insulation upgrades
Closed-cell foam in attics and rim joists, continuous rigid foam on exterior walls where the design supports it.
-
Hurricane-rated impact windows
Laminated impact glass meeting ASTM E1996 wind-borne debris standards. No more boarding up before a storm.
-
Solar-ready electrical pre-wiring
Conduit, sub-panel space, and roof load calcs ready for a solar PV install down the road. Low cost now, big savings later.
-
Low-VOC paints and finishes
Healthier indoor air on day one. Better for kids, pets, and anyone who actually has to live in the space.
-
Construction debris recycling
Wood, metal, drywall, and cardboard sorted on every jobsite, landfill diversion targets on commercial work.
Houston is a special case.
The Gulf Coast hands buildings a tougher hand than almost any other US market. Hundred-degree heat for months, 90 percent humidity, named storms every other year, and a power grid that has its own drama. Buildings here have to be tougher and tighter than what you'd put up in Austin or Dallas, never mind the Northeast.
That's why every line item on our spec sheet exists. Hurricane straps and impact glazing aren't optional features here, they're how a building survives Category 4 winds. Spray foam in the attic isn't a luxury, it's how you keep a 2,000 square foot home cool for under $300 a month in August. We design and build for the climate we actually have.
